Making Seaford Level Crossing Free

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is removing two more dangerous and congested level crossings in Seaford - making local roads safer, easing congestion and delivering a brand-new Seaford Station.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams today announced the start of community consultation on the removals of the Armstrongs Road and Station Street level crossings, with locals invited to have their say on the project's design.

The level crossings will be removed by building new rail bridges over the roads, permanently separating trains from vehicles to boost safety and make travel times more reliable.

A new elevated Seaford Station will be built as part of the project, featuring modern, accessible facilities for passengers and creating opportunities for new community spaces, car parking, walking and cycling connections, and landscaping.

Removing these crossings - the sites of seven near misses since 2016 - will make roads safer and ease congestion for the thousands of motorists who use them each day, with the boom gates currently down for more than 30 minutes during the morning peak when up to 40 trains pass through.

Construction is set to start in 2027, with the level crossings gone for good and the new Seaford Station open to passengers in 2029.

In the coming weeks, crews will carry out site investigations and engineering assessments to help inform the project's design. Locals can have their say on how they move around the area and what's important to them by Sunday 30 November at engage.vic.gov.au/lxrp-seaford.

The Frankston Line will continue to see major improvements, with services returning to the City Loop in February next year when the Metro Tunnel opens - adding more than 1,000 extra weekly services across Melbourne.

By 2029, the Frankston Line will be completely level crossing free, making road and rail journeys safer, faster and more reliable.

As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams

"We are getting rid of every level crossing on the Frankston Line by 2029, improving reliability and making journeys safer for thousands of people every day."

"We are making critical investments along the Frankston Line and when Metro Tunnel's Big Switch occurs early next year it will be easier than ever before to get to the heart of Melbourne - or get to locations around Melbourne's CBD."

As stated by Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny

"Removing the level crossings at Armstrongs Road and Station Street in Seaford will make our local roads safer and ease congestion for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians."
