The best of Australian horticulture, dairy, meat, seafood and wine were spotlighted at a "Taste the Wonders of Australia" event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September.

This flagship event is part of an ongoing campaign to promote Australia's high-quality food and beverages. It is delivered by the Food and Wine Collaboration Group, comprising Hort Innovation Australia, Dairy Australia, Meat & Livestock Australia, Seafood Industry Australia and Wine Australia.

Taking Malaysia on a journey of Australian flavours

Australian gourmet delights were shared with key Malaysian trade and government representatives. The aim was to raise the profile of Australian food and wine producers and improve market access for their products.

With Malaysian consumers increasingly prioritising health and food safety, there is growing demand for Australian agricultural products that are recognised as premium, sustainable and ethically sourced.

"Taste the Wonders of Australia" took more than 300 industry and media representatives on a journey of Aussie flavours. Curated workshops and a Gala Dinner featured an array of unique Australian food and wine.

Well-known chefs, sommeliers, and industry experts were invited to take part in a series of interactive workshops and tastings, including:

  • Understanding Australian Dairy - Cream Cheese and Yogurt
  • Australia's Premium Horticulture
  • Australia's Seafood Industry: A Sustainable Future
  • Classic and Contemporary Australian Wine
  • Aussie Beef and Lamb: Latest Trends and Insights.

Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Australia and Malaysia, the Gala Dinner hosted more than 100 guests at Hilton Kuala Lumpur for an exclusive dining experience. The Malaysian food industry's enthusiastic participation demonstrated strong interest and passion for Australia's unique food and wine offerings.

Industry-government briefing discusses market access strategies

Austrade, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and the Collaboration Group hosted an industry briefing roundtable to advance bilateral trade and meet Malaysia's growing demand for high-quality agricultural products. The roundtable discussed market access-related issues and strategies to support Australian food and wine producers.

'Australia is already Malaysia's 11th largest source of agrifood products. However, rising affluence and growing demand for safe and innovative food products is expanding opportunities for Australia's premium food and wine offerings,' says Gregory Harvey, Austrade's Trade and Investment Commissioner for Malaysia and Brunei.

'By leveraging Austrade's market intelligence and industry connections, Australian food and wine producers can grow their sales in Malaysia's rapidly growing traditional and e-commerce retail sectors, as well as foodservice and manufacturing.'
