Man arrested after incident at Kilburn hotel, SA

A man has been arrested following an incident at a Kilburn hotel today (Wednesday 13 June), according to SA Police.

Just before 1pm, patrols were in attendance at a hotel on Prospect Road when they had cause to speak with a man in the gaming room.

Police will allege the man suddenly became agitated and struck out at the officers. A struggle ensued as the man tried to grab one of the officer's holstered firearm but was unsuccessful.

A staff member who came to the assistance of police was punched and grabbed several times by the man.

Police deployed OC spray and continued to struggle with the man until they were able to restrain him with handcuffs in the rear car park.

The 29-year-old, of no fixed address, is currently at the Lyell McEwin Hospital being medically assessed. He is expected to be charged with two aggravated counts of assaulting police, one count of assault and stating a false name.

One of the arresting officers has a suspected fracture in his hand while the other received several superficial injuries to his hands.

Staff and patrons were evacuated for some time while fans were used to decontaminate the hotel following the use of the OC spray.
