Man arrested after police pursuit, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a lengthy pursuit across northern parts Adelaide this afternoon.

Police will allege that about 1.50pm today (Tuesday 5 February) patrols spotted a white Holden station wagon missing a rear tyre travelling at fast rate north on South Road at Torrensville.

When police attempted to stop the car, the male driver accelerated away . The police helicopter (PolAir) was requested to monitor the car as it travelled through the northern suburbs out on to Main North Road to Parafield.

At around 2.30pm the wanted vehicle was dumped in the Salisbury Downs area, the alleged driver then stole a white Holden ute. This vehicle was followed by PolAir north to Gawler then Two Wells and nearly to Mallala, before the ute headed back south towards Adelaide.

At 3.10pm the stolen ute was successfully road spiked by police on Germantown Road at Redbanks, but the ute continued south then on to Port Wakefield Road.

Just before 3.30pm the stolen ute was dumped at Mawson Lakes near Elder Smith Road and Main Road with the driver running from the vehicle.

The police observer on-board the helicopter then directed patrols to nearby homes at Mawson Lakes with the man being arrested nearby in St Kitts Place just after 3.30pm.

The arrested man is currently being interviewed and will face numerous charges including driving dangerously to evade a police pursuit, illegal use and several other driving charges.

Their appears to be no injuries from the pursuit, police patrols are still collating information form the pursuit. A police vehicle was damaged when it hit a gutter at Blair Athol trying to get in position to use road spikes - it was not pursuing the wanted vehicle at the time.
