Man Arrested After Threatening Bank Employee in Bega

A man has been arrested after a bank employee was allegedly threatened in the states south.

About 3.10pm today (Friday 9 October 2026), officers from the South Coast Police District attended a bank on Carp Street, Bega, following reports of a man armed with a knife.

When officers entered the bank, the man allegedly held a knife to the throat of a 58-year-old female staff member and a number of threats were made.

After a brief verbal interaction between the man and police, officers deployed a Taser to affect the man's arrest.

The 38-year-old man was taken to Bega Police Station.

There were no reports of injuries and the knife was seized.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
