A man is in police custody after another man was allegedly assaulted with a hammer in the state's north this morning.
About 7.30am today (Saturday 21 March 2026), emergency services were called to a home on Manuel Street, Glendale, following reports a man had broken into a house and assaulted the occupant.
On arrival, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District located a 34-year-old man with serious head injuries.
Police were told he was in the house when a 51-year-old man – known to him – broke into the house and allegedly hit him with the hammer.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.
A hammer was found at the scene and has been taken to be forensically examined.
A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.
A short time later, police arrested a 51-year-old man on Clare Street, Glendale.
He has been taken to Toronto Police Station.
