Man arrested over burglary with violence at Hollywell

Police have arrested and charged a man over the alleged serious assault of a couple in their 70s at Hollywell this morning, Queensland Police say.

Police will allege that around 7am a man broke into a Clematis Avenue residence and punched a 74-year-old woman several times before punching and kicking a 70-year-old man.

The man fled the home and was arrested by police at a nearby residence a short time later.

The couple were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of bruising and minor lacerations to their heads, faces and bodies.

A 43-year-old Hollywell man has been charged with two counts of serious assault of a person over 60 and enter dwelling with intent. He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
