Man arrested, police vehicle rammed in Freshwater

A man has been arrested after a police vehicle was rammed on Sydney’s Northern Beaches this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 12.30pm today, a man attempted to steal a vehicle on Greycliffe Street, Queenscliff, but was unsuccessful.

Just after 1pm, a white Jaguar 4WD was stolen from Moore Road, Freshwater.

A short time later, the Jaguar hit a parked police vehicle with two officers inside on Lawrence Street.

Police followed the car and attempted to stop it on Albert Street.

The Jaguar stopped on the road and reversed into the stationary police vehicle, causing significant damage.

The man, believed to be aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene.

During the arrest, two male officers from Northern Beaches Local Area Command were assaulted. They have been to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man was also taken hospital under police guard for mandatory blood and urine testing.

He is currently assisting with inquiries.
