Man Charged After $40K Cash Theft on Train

A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a large amount of cash that was left on a train in Sydney's south west.

Officers attached to Police Transport Command commenced an investigation on Wednesday (2 July 2025) following reports approximately $40,000 cash had been left in a backpack on a train at Glenfield.

Following inquiries, about 8pm on Thursday (3 July 2025), police attended a home on Bringelly Road, Rossmore, where they arrested a 74-year-old man.

Police recovered $36,500 cash.

The man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with larceny, dispose property - theft equal serious indictable offence and deal with property proceeds of crime.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday 24 July 2025.

Police will allege in court the 74-year-old man found the backpack containing the cash on the train, before he transferred the cash into his own bag and exited the train.
