Man charged after assault in Newtown

Police have charged a man after an assault in Newtown overnight.

About 11.55pm yesterday, police were called to King Street following reports of an assault.

Officers from Newtown Local Area Command attended and found a 55-year-old who had been allegedly assaulted at the location.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended and treated the man who was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for lacerations to his face and head.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, NSW Police say.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on Thursday 13 July 2017.
