Man Charged After Bonnyrigg Hit-and-Run Crash

A man has been charged following an alleged fail-to-stop and serious crash in Sydney's west earlier this week.

Around 6.25pm on Thursday 15 January 2026, officers attached to Liverpool City Sector Highway Patrol were conducting routine patrols in the Smithfield area when they attempted to stop a Yamaha motorcycle on Smithfield Road.

The rider allegedly failed to stop as directed, and travelled at high speed, crossing to the incorrect side of the roadway. No pursuit was initiated due to safety concerns.

The motorcycle continued travelling on Smithfield Road before allegedly colliding with a black SUV near the intersection of Elizabeth Drive.

The rider was assisted by a member of the public and emergency services were called.

The 32-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition under police guard.

Today (Saturday 17 January 2026), the man was charged with eight offences:

- Class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 20km/h – Estimated

- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous

- Police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed

- Class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h - Estimated

- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period

- Not give particulars to other driver

- Custody of knife in public place - subsequent offence, and

- Unauthorised entry of vehicle or boat.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Monday 19 January 2026.
