Man Charged After Bus Intimidation in Newcastle

A man has been charged after allegedly intimidating a passenger on a bus in Newcastle last week.

About 12.30pm on Thursday 11 June 2026, a man was travelling on a bus along King Street, Newcastle, when another passenger allegedly began threatening him.

When the man exited the bus on Darby Street, Cooks Hill, the passenger allegedly continued to abuse and intimidate the man.

The incident was reported to Newcastle City Police District on Saturday 13 June 2026 and officers commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries by the Police Transport Command North/Central Team, officers attended a unit on Ocean Street, Merewether, about 10.45am yesterday (Wednesday 17 June 2026).

A 54-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with use offensive language in/near public place/school, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 July 2026.
