Man Charged After Cross-Border Police Operation

A man has been been charged following a cross-border operation and multiple pursuits in the state's south.

On Wednesday 29 October 2025, a white Toyota Hilux 4WD was stolen from Finley, New South Wales.

About 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 30 October 2025), the vehicle was allegedly involved a short pursuit with members of Victoria Police near Echuca, where it failed to stop and entered New South Wales, crossing the Murray River at Moama.

The pursuit was monitored by Polair from Victoria, who continued to follow the vehicle into New South Wales.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District sighted the vehicle on Meninya Street, Moama and attempted to stop the vehicle and when it failed to stop, commenced a pursuit.

NSW Police terminated the pursuit a short time later due to safety concerns.

The vehicle's location continued to be monitored by Polair from Victoria through Moama, Thyra and Mathoura.

A short time later, NSW Police were notified by Victorian Polair that the vehicle had stopped under a bridge on the roadway at Millewa Road, Mathoura.

When police approached the parked vehicle, it took off again at high speed and a pursuit was initiated.

NSW Police terminated the pursuit a short time later due to safety concerns.

The vehicle's location continued to be monitored by Polair from Victoria through Tocumwal and back towards Mathoura.

The driver managed to avoid road spikes on two occasions, which had been set up by police in an attempt to disable the vehicle.

A further pursuit continued through roads in the Millewa State Forest, before the driver stopped the vehicle and ran into dense bushland.

With the assistance of the Dog Squad, the man was arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

The man was charged with nine offences - drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive whilst disqualified, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive under influence of alcohol, refuse or fail to submit to a breath test, commit Section 114 offence having previous conviction, use unauthorised number plate and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 today (Friday 31 October 2025).
