Man Charged After Dandenong, Cranbourne Carjackings

Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following two alleged attempted carjackings and one carjacking in the southeastern suburbs this month.

Officers were called after a 30-year-old man approached a Hyundai Sante Fe on High Street, Cranbourne about 4pm on Thursday 18 June.

Police will allege the man opened the rear passenger door before making demands for the keys.

It is understood that when the driver, a 45-year-old man refused, he was assaulted.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The 30-year-old then allegedly fled the scene on foot.

A short time later, police will allege the same man approached a Nissan Qashqai on New Street, Dandenong.

It Is understood he entered the front passenger door, again making demands for the keys to the vehicle.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman, exited the vehicle before the man fled in the Qashqai.

Police will allege he then left the vehicle at a carpark on McCrae Street before fleeing on foot.

During a patrol, officers located and arrested the man on Clow Street.

Police will allege the man also stole a set of car keys from a man at a carpark on McCrae Street on Tuesday, 9 June.

Officers have been told the man approached a 35-year-old man as he exited a nearby gym.

The 30-year-old allegedly made demands for the keys to the man's Toyota Camry, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The man of no fixed address was interviewed and charged with a number of offences, including attempted carjacking and carjacking.

He was remanded to appear before Dandenong Magistrates' Court today.
