Man charged after firearm discharged during domestic incident in Singleton

A man has been charged after a firearm was allegedly discharged during a domestic-related incident at Singleton last week, NSW Police say.

Police will allege about 9.30am on Friday 8 September 2017, a 27-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were on Dangar Road when they became involved in an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

The man returned to his car which was parked nearby and allegedly retrieved a rifle from the boot and pointed it at the woman.

The woman deflected the barrel away and the firearm discharged.

The man returned to his vehicle and left the scene. No-one was injured as a result of the firearm being discharged.

Police from Hunter Valley Local Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced investigations.

About 12.40pm today, officers attended a home in Wakehurst Crescent, Singleton Heights and arrested a 21-year-old man.

A search of the property located an amount of steroids, a replica pistol, ammunition and a firearm part.

A 25-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene for outstanding warrants.

Both were taken to Singleton Police Station where the man was charged with ten offences:

- Common assault (DV);

- Possess unregistered firearm in public place;

- Possess loaded firearm in public place;

- Not keep firearm safely;

- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence;

- Fire firearm manner likely to injure;

- Possess prescribed restricted substance (x2);

- Possess ammunition without licence; and

- Driving complaint (burnout)

The man and the woman were refused bail to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court tomorrow.
