Man charged after firearm discovered during vehicle stop, NSW

A man will appear in court after a vehicle stop at Bass Hill overnight where a firearm and ammunition were located, NSW Police say.

About 11.45pm on Sunday 8 October 2017, officers attached to the South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad stopped a Holden Commodore on Hector Street.

The officers spoke with the four occupants and conducted a search of the vehicle, locating a backpack in the rear footwell.

The bag was searched and a shortened, loaded .22 calibre rifle was found inside.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene and conveyed to Bankstown Police Station.

He was later charged with possess loaded firearm, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safe, possess ammunition without holding licence, acquire etc prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Bankstown Local Court tomorrow.
