Alexandra Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he was allegedly involved in multiple incidents across the Goulburn Valley on Wednesday.
It is believed officers first sighted an allegedly stolen Toyota Hilux on the Goulburn Valley Highway and Killingworth Road in Molesworth on 30 July about 12.15pm.
A man ran from the vehicle into a nearby shed, allegedly stealing another Toyota Hilux.
The man drove the Hilux but quickly became bogged, before allegedly running into another property and threatening the occupant with an axe.
It is alleged the man stole another Hilux and fled in the vehicle.
Police monitored the stolen vehicle into the Yarck area when they received reports of a collision on the Maroondah Highway about 1.50pm.
Officers were quickly on scene and attempted to arrest the man, who was allegedly resistant and violent towards them.
A taser was deployed, and although unsuccessful, officers were still able to overpower the man and take him into custody.
The 33-year-old man was taken to hospital under police guard.
He has since been interviewed and charged with:
- Aggravated burglary - offensive weapon
- Aggravated burglary - person present
- Aggravated carjacking - offensive weapon
- Attempted carjacking
- Reckless conducted endangering life
- Burglary (4)
- Theft (12)
- Common law assault
- Fail to stop vehicle on police direction
- Dangerous driving while pursued by police
- Possess controlled weapon (2)
- Unlicensed driving
- Recklessly cause injury
He will appear at the Seymour Magistrates' Court today via audio visual link.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision, an 83-year-old Bonnie Doon man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
