Man charged after house fire in Waratah

A man will appear in court today following a house fire at Waratah last month.

About 6.15am (14 May 2017), police were called to a home which was well alight on Ada Street.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. The property sustained significant damage as a result of the fire.

No persons were in the home at the time.

A crime scene was established which was examined by forensic specialists, NSW Police say.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the fire and about 9.20am today, officers arrested a 31-year-old man.

He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with malicious damage by fire x2.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
