A man has been charged after two police officers were allegedly assaulted in Sydney’s west yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 8.30am (Tuesday 23 October 2018), officers attached to Cabramatta Police Transport Command were patrolling Yennora Railway Station when they noticed a man fail to "tap off" from his journey.
When officers attempted to speak to the man, it’s alleged he became aggressive.
After a brief struggle, the man was arrested and searched.
During the arrest, OC spray was deployed.
The officers involved were injured during the struggle – a male senior constable suffered a fractured wrist and a female senior constable attended Campbelltown Hospital for treatment for a hand injury.
Police allegedly located a knife, ice pipe, and a crystal substance alleged to be methamphetamine (ice) during the search of the man.
He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with travel/attempt to travel without a valid ticket, resist/hinder police, assault police, custody of knife and possess prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Fairfield Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 23 October 2018), where he was granted conditional bail and will reappear at the same court on Monday 5 November 2018.
