Man charged after pursuit in Appin

About 5.30pm (Saturday 2 December 2017), police were responding to an urgent job in Appin when they saw a Suzuki Swift allegedly driving in a dangerous manner along Appin Road, NSW Police say.

Police attempted to pull the Suzuki over but it failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The Suzuki travelled from Appin to Wilton and towards Picton where it has evaded police road spikes.

With the assistance of PolAir, the Suzuki was seen to stop on Remembrance Drive; about 1km north of Picton and the driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested.

The driver underwent a roadside breath test which returned a negative result; however, a roadside drug test gave a positive indication. The results will be sent for further testing.

He was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), learner not accompanied, learner driver not display "L" plates, and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 3 December 2017).
