Man Charged After Randwick to Turramurra Pursuit

A man will face court charged after a police pursuit from Sydney's eastern beaches to the Upper North Shore overnight.

About 11pm (Sunday 10 August 2025), police were called to the intersection of Oberon and Arden Street, South Coogee, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told a red hatchback and a black sedan collided before the driver of the hatchback allegedly left the scene without exchanging details.

A short time later, police located the hatchback on Canberra Street, Randwick.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle continued along Bundock Street before travelling to Malabar Road, Maroubra Road and Anzac Parade, Maroubra before conducting a u-turn and travelling north bound along Anzac Parade.

Road spikes were deployed at the intersection of Anzac Parade and Gardeners Road; however, the vehicle allegedly continued towards Oxford Street, Surry Hills.

The pursuit was terminated before police reengaged on Liverpool Street, Sydney where the vehicle is alleged to have continued along Elizabeth Street before heading north along the Cahill Expressway and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The pursuit continued north on the Pacific Highway at North Sydney before stopping at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Ray Street, Turramurra.

About 11.50pm officers attached to the Raptor Squad arrested the driver – and sole occupant – a 32-year-old man.

He was subjected to a roadside oral fluid test that allegedly returned a positive reading for an illicit drug.

He was taken to Hornsby Police Station where a secondary oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis.

He was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, not give particulars to other driver and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and will appear before Hornsby Local Court today (Monday 11 August 2025).
