Man Charged After Road-Rage Gun Incident in Newcastle

A Sydney man will face court today charged following a road-rage incident in Newcastle yesterday when a firearm was allegedly produced.

About 11.50am (Monday 2 February 2026), a minor collision occurred on the Stockton Bridge, resulting in damage to both vehicles.

The drivers stopped on Teal Street, Kooragang, and began arguing; police will allege one man threatened the other with a firearm, before both drove from the scene.

One of the drivers, a 56-year-old man, subsequently reported the incident at Waratah Police Station.

Following extensive inquiries by Newcastle City Police District and Ryde Police Area Command, officers attended a home on Hamilton Crescent, Ryde, about 5pm yesterday (Monday 2 February 2026).

A 77-year-old man was arrested and a pistol was seized before the man was taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with two offences,

  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence, and
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 3 February 2026).

The man has also been issued a firearm suspension notice.
