Man Charged After Tobacco, Weapons Bust in Campbellfield

Police have charged a man after seizing illicit tobacco valued at close to $2M and a loaded firearm during a warrant in Campbellfield yesterday.

A 30-year-old Craigieburn man was arrested at his home address yesterday afternoon.

A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a conducted energy device, knife and a large quantity of cash.

A second warrant was then executed in Craigieburn, with police locating over 4700 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at close to $2M and a loaded handgun.

The Craigieburn man was interviewed and charged with firearm, prohibited weapons and proceeds of crime offences.

He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

The investigation remains ongoing and police will look at whether the illicit tobacco seizure is related to any other incidents or organised crime groups.
