Man charged following Colac collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 57-year-old man following a collision with two pedestrians in Colac on 9 January, Victoria Police say.

It is alleged a vehicle hit a female pedestrian and a man in a wheelchair at the intersection of Hart and Murray Street about 7.30pm.

A 59-year-old female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 79-year-old man, who uses a wheelchair, was airlifted to hospital where he later died on 22 February.

Detectives charged a Colac man with drive in a manner dangerous causing death, two counts of drive in a manner causing serious injury, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, careless driving and failing to give way to a pedestrian.

He appeared at Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.
