A man has been charged following a fatal two-vehicle crash in Maryland, near Newcastle, in January.
About 10.30am on Tuesday 5 January 2016, emergency services were called to Maryland Drive following reports of a head-on collision between a Subaru Impreza and a Holden Commodore.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Holden, 20-year-old male front-passenger, and 22-year-old male back-seat passenger were all taken by Ambulance Paramedics to John Hunter Hospital.
The 20-year-old man died a short time later.
The 32-year-old male driver of the Subaru was not injured during the incident.
His 25-year-old female front-seat passenger and a three-month old child were taken to John Hunter Hospital for observation. A fourth passenger – a one-year-old boy – was uninjured.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit attended and established a crime scene.
Following investigations, about 11am yesterday (3 June 2016), a 19-year-old man, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for:
- Dangerous driving occasioning death,
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm,
- Negligent driving occasioning death,
- Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and;
- Driving with illicit drug present in blood (second offence).
The man will appear at Newcastle Local Court on 28 July 2016.
