Man charged following hit-run collision at Laverton

A man has been charged following an alleged hit-run collision which occurred at Laverton last night, Victoria Police say.

The collision happened on Railway Avenue when a two-year-old boy was struck by an east-bound Holden station wagon just before 9pm.

The boy’s family, who realised the child was missing, were attempting to catch up with him when he ran out on to the road.

The driver of the station wagon allegedly failed to stop and drove away from the scene.

A short time later police attended at a Laverton address and arrested a 21-year-old man.

He has been charged with failing to stop, fail to render assistance and learner driver drive without full licence holder.

He has been released on bail to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court Friday 14 September.

The child remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Police are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident and anyone who may have dash cam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers.
