Man charged following investigations into deliberately lit grass fires in Inverell

Police have charged a man following investigations into alleged deliberately lit grass fires during a dangerous bushfire period in the state’s Western region earlier this year, NSW Police say.

On 22 and 23 August 2018, multiple grass fires were burning near Borthwick Street, Rifle Range Road, Mcilveen Lookout and Copeton Dam Road.

NSW Fire & Rescue and NSW Rural Fire Service unit responded and extinguished the fires with no reported injuries or damage to property.

Officers from New England Police District commenced inquiries and today (Monday 5 November 2018), they arrested an 18-year-old Inverell man.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread (x4) and intimidation (domestic).

He was given conditional bail and will appear in Inverell Local Court on Thursday 15 November 2018.
