Thousands more South Australians living in social housing will benefit from lower energy bills and more comfortable homes.
A further $36.1 million is being invested through the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI). The funding will support upgrades to approximately 3,500 additional social housing properties across South Australia.
The upgrades include:
- draught proofing
- LED lighting
- electric hot water systems
- improved window glazing
- ceiling insulation.
This builds on earlier investment through SHEPI and brings the total number of South Australian households supported by the program to 7,500.
The upgrades will help:
- lower energy bills
- make homes more comfortable year-round
- reduce emissions.
Across Australia, SHEPI is investing $1.1 billion to improve the energy efficiency of more than 100,000 social housing properties. Upgrades to more than 41,000 properties have already been completed.
