Man charged following stabbing in Wollongong

A man has been charged after another man was stabbed outside Wollongong Hospital yesterday.

Just before 9.30am (Monday 7 January 2019), a 40-year-old man was sitting at a bus stop outside the hospital on Crown Street.

Police will allege that as a white Holden Commodore sedan drove past, and the 45-year-old male driver yelled out the window, before pulling into the hospital car park and getting out of the vehicle.

It's alleged he ran over to the younger man and stabbed him once in the back, before fleeing the scene in the Holden.

The injured man was briefly admitted to hospital, however, discharged himself before seeking treatment.

It's believed the two men were previously known to each other.

Officers from Wollongong Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

About 1.30pm (Monday 7 January 2019), detectives attended an address in Woonona and arrested the 45-year-old man.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with affray.

Bail was refused and he appeared before Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 8 January 2019).

He will next appear before Wollongong Local Court on 26 February 2019.
