Man Charged for Assaulting Police Officer in Sydenham

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Sydenham this morning.

Just before 2am (Saturday 22 April 2023), police were called to Sydenham Railway Station following reports of an intoxicated man.

On arrival at the station, a man – aged 39 – attempted to open the door of the police car, before allegedly assaulting a female officer.

With assistance from additional police and nearby security guards, the man was restrained and taken to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The female police officer was also taken to hospital with facial injuries and has since been released.

On his release from hospital, the man was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 22 April 2023).
