Man Charged in Ermington Axe Affray

A man has been charged over an alleged affray after an axe was seized in Sydney's north west yesterday.

About 5.15pm yesterday (Friday 15 May 2026), police were called to a supermarket on Victoria Road, Ermington, following reports of a man armed with an axe.

Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command were told an unknown man approached a 27-year-old male customer in the store and attempted to assault him with an axe before leaving the scene on foot.

The customer was not injured.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 6.15pm the same day, police arrested a 59-year-old man on Seamiest Avenue, Ermington before they located and seized an axe nearby.

He was taken to Ryde Hospital for an assessment under police guard.

He was later taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 7 tomorrow (Sunday 17 May 2026).
