Man Charged in Hope Island Grievous Harm Case

Police have charged a man in relation to the grievous bodily harm of a man at Hope Island this morning, 5 January.

Just before 2am, police were called to a service station on Broadwater Avenue regarding a man who had been assaulted.

It will be alleged that the 55-year-old Illawong man had been at a nearby tavern with a 33-year-old Warabrook man who was known to him, before the pair attended Halcyon Way.

A physical altercation ensued between the pair over a missing dog.

The injured 55-year-old man then walked to the nearby service station where emergency services were called.

He sustained serious facial injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition where he will undergo surgery.

Following investigations, police arrested a man at a nearby address.

The 33-year-old Warabrook man has subsequently been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today, January 5.
