A man will face court today charged following an investigation into a theft and armed robbery in Inverell yesterday.
About 4.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 August 2025), a man entered a supermarket on Byron Street, Inverell, where he allegedly grabbed food items and left the store without paying.
A short time later, the man entered another business on Vivian Street, Inverell, where he allegedly produced a knife.
The shop attendant alerted customers before she ushered them to the back of the store, before exiting.
Police were told the man approached the front counter and allegedly stole money from the registers before leaving on foot.
No-one was injured.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the two incidents.
Following inquiries, about 5pm, police attended Vivian Street, Inverell, to speak with a man who was walking along the footpath.
The 23-year-old man was arrested and during a search of the man police located and seized, a knife, food, cash, and cannabis.
He was taken to Inverell Police Station and charged with shoplifting, robbery armed with offensive weapon, possess prohibited drug, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.
The man was refused bail to appear at Local Bail Division Court 5, today (Thursday 7 August 2025), where he was formerly refused bail to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 14 October 2025.
