A man will face court today charged following an investigation into alleged stealing and armed robbery incidents in Newcastle.
About 8.45pm on Monday 11 May 2026, police were called to a bottle shop on Tudor Street, Hamilton, following reports of a stealing incident.
At the scene, police were told two men entered the premises before allegedly stealing seven bottles of spirits.
About 2am yesterday (Tuesday 12 May 2026), police were called to a service station on Tudor Street, Hamilton, following reports of an armed robbery.
At the scene, officers were told two men entered the service station and allegedly threatened a staff member with a screwdriver before leaving with cash and cigarettes.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incidents.
About 10.10am yesterday, police attempted to stop a man on Gordon Street, Hamilton.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on Elcho Street following a foot pursuit.
During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized 18 pouches of tobacco, two packets of cigarettes, and bolt cutters.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with larceny, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), and robbery armed with offensive weapon.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 13 May 2026).
Inquiries into the incident continue.
