Man Charged Over Attempted Armed Robbery in Airport West

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have this afternoon charged a man following an attempted armed robbery at a licensed premises in Airport West last year.

A 42-year-old Beveridge man was arrested in Broadmeadows this morning.

He was subsequently interviewed by police and has since been charged with aggravated burglary with a firearm, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, criminal damage, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and theft of motor vehicle.

The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

The charge follows an incident at a licensed venue on Matthew Avenue in Airport West on Monday, 18 September.

Investigators will allege a blue Nissan Navara rammed the front door of the gaming venue shortly after 4am.

Two armed men then attempted to gain access to the gaming area but were stopped by security barriers.

The duo fled the scene empty handed.

Staff inside the premises at the time were not physically injured during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
