Man charged over fraudulent access and theft from online bank account, NSW

Cybercrime Squad detectives have charged a man after locating ice and a replica pistol during a search of a home in Sydney’s south-west as part of an online fraud investigation, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 68-year-old man’s bank account had been fraudulently accessed and $7000 had been stolen.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Allum Street, Bankstown, about 9am yesterday (Thursday 15 November 2018).

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

During the search, investigators seized mobile phones, credit cards believed to have been stolen, ‘ice’, and a bag containing duct tape, gloves, and a replica pistol.

The man was charged with 10 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, possess unauthorised firearm, possess prohibited drug, possess identity information to commit indictable offence, and unauthorised function with intent serious offence.

Police will allege in court the man fraudulently accessed the bank account and withdrew cash numerous times between Tuesday 3 July 2018 and Saturday 7 July 2018.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 16 November 2018).

Inquiries are continuing.
