Man Charged Over Lake Macquarie Speeding Incident

A man has been charged over an alleged speeding incident at Lake Macquarie over the weekend.

About 3.50am yesterday (Sunday 11 February 2024), police from Newcastle City Highway Patrol allegedly detected a vehicle travelling at 196km/h in a signposted 90km/h zone on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Hillsborough.

The driver of the MG SUV was stopped and underwent a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result.

A 27-year-old man – who was allegedly driving on a disqualified license – was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station where he underwent a secondary drug test.

The Stockton man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed greater than 45 km/h.

He appeared before Newcastle Local Court yesterday (Sunday 11 February 2024), where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before the same court on Thursday 7 March 2024.
