OSCE Promotes Youth Engagement at Syr Darya Forum

On 1 October 2026, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, in collaboration with the Youth Group on Protection of Environment, Helvetas, ACTED, GIZ Tajikistan and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, organized the IV Youth Forum of the Syr Darya River Basin in Gulistan, Sughd region. The event brought together more than 170 participants from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, including Green Patrols members, teachers, experts, youth representatives, government officials and development partners.

Participants reviewed the initiative's results for the 2025-2026 academic year, which included more than 3,600 additional hours of environmental education and the planting of over 2,500 trees. Working in nine teams, they also built models of the Syr Darya River basin, demonstrating the links between water, nature and human activity. Master classes on eco-journalism, groundwater, nature-based solutions, artificial intelligence and integrated water resources management in Central Asia further expanded participants' knowledge and skills.

The event also announced the winners of the "Best Green Patrols Teacher 2025-2026" competition and presented the Green Patrols Action Plan for 2026-2027, in line with the State Programme for the Development of Environmental Education and Culture in Tajikistan for 2026-2030.
