Man Charged Over Lewisham Break-In and Peeping Incident

A man has been charged over alleged break and enter and sexual offences in Sydney's Inner West overnight.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports a man allegedly broken into a unit on New Canterbury Road, Lewisham, about 3.50am yesterday (Saturday 10 October 2026).

On scene, police were told an unknown man allegedly broke into the unit through a window, where he attempted to speak to a female occupant inside.

The man allegedly performed a sexual act, before attempting to gain access through the front entrance of the unit.

Another male occupant of the unit confronted the man, before an altercation occurred and the man ran from the scene.

Police were notified and searched the area, where they located and seized clothing items and a mobile phone.

Following inquiries, a 26-year-old man was arrested at Newtown Police Station about 6.15pm yesterday.

He was charged with

- Aggravated break and enter with intent - knowing person there,

- Peep or pry,

- Common assault,

- Carry out sexual act with another without consent, and

- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 7 today (Sunday 11 October 2026).
