Man charged over online child grooming, NSW

A man is due to face court today after being charged with online child grooming last month, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) investigation into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.

In November 2016, Strike Force officers began engaging online with a man from the state’s New England Region.

Police will allege in court the man believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl and made numerous sexually explicit comments to the child.

Just after 10.30am on Friday 16 December 2016, Strike Force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Armidale.

During the warrant, police seized a laptop, two tablet devices, a mobile phone, electronic storage devices, and two cameras.

Later that day, detectives arrested a 45-year-old man at Chippendale.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with use carriage service to groom persons under 16.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Armidale Local Court tomorrow.
