Man charged over Southbank assault

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 34-year-old man following an assault in Southbank on Friday, Victoria Police say.

Emergency services were called to a disused building on Clarke Street just before 1pm.

It’s alleged that three men were involved in an altercation and a 36-year-old man was set on fire.

A 33-year-old man and the 34-year-old were arrested at the scene.

The 33-year-old man is in hospital under police guard suffering non-life threatening injuries.

The 34-year-old man faced an out of sessions hearing this morning and was charged with intentionally cause serious injury, conduct endangering life and other assault related charges.

He has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
