Man charged over southern suburb incidents, WA

Fremantle Detectives have charged a man as a result of their investigation into several incidents which occurred between 21 and 23 March 2018, across various southern suburbs.

Around 7:15am on Wednesday 21 March 2018, the man approached a 59 year old man in the carpark of a café located on South Street in O’Connor and asked for money. When the victim refused to give him money, it is alleged he punched the windscreen of the victim’s car with enough force to crack the windscreen, WA Police say.

On Thursday 22 March 2018, the man was seen walking along Fitzwater Way in Spearwood around 3:30pm carrying a metal pole. It is alleged he approached a 24 year old man and threatened him verbally and with the pole before walking away.

Around 3pm on Friday 23 March 2018, a 90 year old woman and a 29 year old woman were using an ATM located at a shopping centre on South Street in Kardinya. It will be alleged the man assaulted both women, striking them to the face. Both woman fell to the ground and the man left the area.

The 36 year old man of Spearwood was arrested by Fremantle Detectives with the assistance of Cockburn Response officers on Friday, 23 March 2018. He has since been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage;

• Being Armed in a Way that May Cause Fear;

• Disorderly Conduct;

• Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm;

• Aggravated Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm; and

• Assault Public Officer (Circumstances of Aggravation).

He is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court today, 28 March 2018.
