A man will face court today charged with 13 firearm offences after detectives seized several unregistered firearms from a home in Sydney’s north west, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad have been conducting ongoing inquiries into the illegal possession of firearms across Sydney.

Following inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Wicks Road, North Ryde, about 8.30am yesterday (Thursday 20 December 2018).

Officers seized several items relevant to the investigation, including two rifles, a shotgun, ammunition, and replica firearms.

Investigators arrested a 32-year-old man at the home and he was taken to Ryde Police Station.

The man was charged with possess ammunition without holding licence/permit, three counts of not keep firearm safely, three counts of possess unregistered firearm, three counts of possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, and possess prohibited weapon without permit.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 21 December 2018).

Drug and Firearms Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Martin Fileman, said investigators were committed to removing prohibited and unauthorised firearms across NSW.

"We are putting the public on notice – unauthorised and unregistered firearms on our streets are an issue we will continue to target," Det Supt Fileman said.

"It is also important to note that firearms owners should be responsible and abide by the law when it comes to firearms storage.

"For their own safety and the safety of the community, it is a requirement as a gun-owner to store firearms according to the law."
