A man has been charged with alleged drug and firearms offences following an arrest near Newcastle last night.
About 10.15pm yesterday (Thursday 25 September 2025), police attended a unit on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, following reports a man had been seen with a firearm.
When police accessed the unit, the man allegedly fled from the balcony of the second-storey unit into a laneway below; however, was arrested by police a short time later.
A search of the man allegedly revealed a knife, while a search of the laneway allegedly revealed a rifle and a travel bag containing drugs, cash and ammunition.
A crime scene warrant was executed at the unit, with further drugs, cash and ammunition allegedly located.
A total of $8,500 cash, 1.172kg cannabis, 15.94g methamphetamine, 58.2g cocaine, and 68 bullets were allegedly seized.
The 28-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with nine offences,
- Supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity (two counts)
- Supply cannabis (more than indictable and less than commercial quantity)
- Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm
- Possess loaded firearm public place
- Possess unregistered firearm in public place
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
- Deal with property proceeds of crime, and
- Custody of knife in public place.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Friday 26 September 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 October 2025.
