A man will face court charged with assaulting police in the Illawarra.
About 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday 15 February 2026), police attended a home in Cooinda Place, Kiama, to arrest a man in relation to an alleged DV incident.
During the arrest, police will allege the 32-year-old man punched a male constable in the throat and face before the constable deployed OC spray to effect the arrest.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he allegedly made threats towards the same male constable and a male leading senior constable.
NSW Ambulance were called and attempted to treat the man, who allegedly declined.
Police will allege that while in custody, the man punched the leading constable in the face, breaking his glasses and causing cuts to his eyebrow and nose. Officers then deployed OC spray, and the man was handcuffed again.
The 32-year-old was charged with assault police in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, two counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, two counts of intimidate police officer in execution of duty and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm. He was also charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.
He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Monday 16 February 2026).
Both officers were treated and have returned to duty.
