Man Charged With Excessive Speeding And Drink Driving – Glenorchy, TAS

Police this morning apprehended and charged a 24-year-old man for unlicensed driving, speeding and drink driving, Tasmania Police say.

At around 12.10am, police observed a silver Toyota Corolla station wagon travelling North on the Brooker Highway at Glenorchy speeding at 165km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The vehicle was subsequently intercepted and the driver found to be unlicensed and recorded a reading of 0.147 on Breath Analysis.

The driver was charged with exceed 0.05; Section 6(3); unlicensed driving and speeding.

The silver Corolla has been clamped for 90 days.

"Despite recent warnings about speed, alcohol, inattention and icy/wet road conditions being a significant factor in serious and fatal crashes, police are dismayed that some motorists continue to commit such offences," said Inspector John Ward.

"When driving on Tasmanian roads I remind motorists to keep the ‘Fatal Five’ in mind which are:

  • Speeding
  • Failure to wear seatbelts
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Distraction, and
  • Fatigue"

"I also reiterate to motorists to drive to the conditions, remain alert at all times, and ensure your vehicle is roadworthy."
