Man Charged With Firearm, Shoplifting in Wagga Wagga

A man will face court today charged with firearm and shoplifting offences in the state's south west.

About 3:30pm on Wednesday (17 June 2026) a 36-year-old man attended a supermarket in Gurwood Street, Wagga Wagga.

Police will allege the man removed a number of store items from the shelf and while attempting to conceal these items within his shorts, a firearm dislodged from his pants and fell onto the floor.

The man picked up the firearm and left the store without making any attempt to pay for the items while carrying the firearm in view of the public.

Following inquiries, at 3pm yesterday (Thursday 18 June 2026) police attached to Riverina Police District attended a home in Beckwith Street, Wagga Wagga to execute a search warrant.

The 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with

  • Possess unauthorised firearm
  • Possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place
  • Shoplifting

Police seized the firearm and items allegedly stolen.

He has been refused bail to appear at Bail Division 5 today, Friday 19 June 2026.
