Man Charged With Knife Offence at Wollongong Courthouse

A man has been charged with knife offences, after he allegedly attempted to take a knife into a courthouse in the Illawarra.

About 9.15am yesterday (Thursday 26 February 2026), police were called to a courthouse on Market Street, Wollongong, after court sheriffs allegedly seized a knife from a man's backpack, which had gone through the baggage scanner.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded but the man had left the scene.

About 7.40pm yesterday, a 55-year-old man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station.

Police allegedly seized a flip knife from his backpack.

He was arrested and charged with custody of knife in public place and possess knife (not prohibited weapon) in court.

He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today ( Friday 27 February 2026).
