Man Charged With Manslaughter in Sutherland Shire

A man will face court today charged with manslaughter after another man died in hospital following an alleged assault in Sydney's' south earlier this week.

On Monday 9 March 2026, officers attached to Sutherland Police Aea Command attended St George Hospital, where a 40-year-old man was being treated for serious head injuries. His injuries were considered not consistent with a fall.

The man died in hospital later that day and detectives commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mesan.

Police were told NSW Ambulance paramedics attended Bunarba Road, Gymea Bay, about 3.20pm on Tuesday 3 March 2026, where the man was found suffering serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.

Following extensive inquiries, about 1.50pm yesterday (Thursday 12 March 2026), detectives arrested a 37-year-old man on Bowns Road, Kogarah.

He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with manslaughter.

Police will allege in court that the 37-year-old man assaulted the 40-year-old man during an argument at a worksite on Bunarba Road, before the older man fell backwards and struck his head on the roadway.

The 37-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 13 March 2026).
