A man has been charged after being extradited from Queensland over the alleged fatal stabbing of a man in the state's central west.
Police were called to Mudgee Hospital about 11pm on Saturday 17 May 2025, when a 22-year-old man died there after being brought to the hospital suffering a stab wound to his abdomen.
Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District established crime scenes at the hospital and Gladstone Street, where it's believed the man was allegedly stabbed during a fight with another person.
Strike Force Dunedin – comprising detectives from Orana Mid-Western Police District assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad – was formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
About 3.20pm on Sunday 18 May 2025, a 28-year-old man was arrested by Queensland Police at Toowoomba Police Station.
He appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday 19 May 2025, where an application for extradition was granted.
The man was then taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
He faced Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 20 May 2025), where he was refused bail to appear before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
